BB Return EA — In-Depth Review, 15-Year Backtest Analysis & Download Guide (MT4 + MT5)

Last updated: April 2026

Every EA review starts with a profit factor. We’ve reviewed Gold scalpers with profit factors of 4, 5, 7, occasionally 10. The highest we’d ever listed before this was a profit factor of 11.78 on a top-tier mean reversion system. That number felt extreme.

BB Return EA’s 15-year backtest produced a profit factor of 102.02.

That’s not a typo. One hundred and two dollars of gross profit for every one dollar of gross loss. Across 1,076 trades. Over 15 years. With a 98.70% win rate. With a maximum of one consecutive loss across the entire period — meaning the EA never lost twice in a row from 2011 to 2026.

Our first reaction was scepticism. Numbers this extreme usually mean the test parameters are wrong, the data is corrupted, or the strategy is curve-fitted into oblivion. So we pulled apart the methodology, ran the live signal verification, examined the customer reviews, and read the developer’s actual implementation choices. This review is what we found.

⚠️ Searching for BB Return EA free download? BB Return is an official MQL5 marketplace product with built-in DRM. Cracked .ex4 or .ex5 files do not exist for marketplace EAs. Sites offering “free downloads” deliver malware, fake EAs that won’t execute, or funnel you into Telegram VIP signal scams. CheaperForex offers BB Return MT4 and BB Return MT5 at significant discounts on MQL5 with official activation and a 7-day money-back guarantee.

The 102.02 Profit Factor in Context

Profit factor is gross profit divided by gross loss. It measures how much you win relative to how much you lose, ignoring the win/loss count. A profit factor above 2 is considered strong. Above 3 is exceptional. Above 5 is rare. Above 10 is questionable — usually a sign of curve-fitting or unrealistic test conditions.

BB Return’s 102.02 profit factor doesn’t come from making huge wins or avoiding huge losses. It comes from the win rate. When 98.70% of your trades are winners, the gross profit accumulates massively while the gross loss stays small. Specifically: gross profit of $25,247,775 against gross loss of $247,468 over 15 years on a $1,000 starting balance with full compounding.

The arithmetic works because of two reinforcing factors:

Factor 1: Extreme filtering selectivity. The EA doesn’t trade every Bollinger Band touch. It waits for price to break outside the bands, then waits for a confirmed return candle, then verifies four additional filters (spread, BB width, volatility, middle band filter) before any entry. Most band touches don’t pass all five gates. The result: only 80-100 trades per year, but the ones that do execute are setups where every condition is aligned.

Factor 2: The 1500/450 point SL/TP ratio. The fixed stop loss of 1500 points is 3.3x larger than the fixed take profit of 450 points. This is asymmetric in the “wrong” direction — when the EA loses, individual losses are larger than individual wins. But because the win rate is 98.70%, the math still works dramatically in the trader’s favour.

The 102 profit factor is the product of these two design choices: extreme selectivity creates extreme win rates, and the asymmetric SL/TP creates extreme profit factor when the win rate holds. Take either factor away and the number collapses.

15-Year Equity Curve: The Smoothness Test

BB Return 15-year backtest equity curve from 2011 to 2026 showing smooth near-linear growth
15 years, 1,076 trades, near-linear equity growth.

If a backtest is curve-fitted to specific market conditions, the equity curve usually shows it. There will be a period of explosive growth where conditions favoured the strategy, followed by flatlining or drawdown when conditions changed. Real working strategies produce smoother curves because the underlying logic captures genuine market structure rather than a specific historical regime.

BB Return’s 15-year equity curve is remarkably smooth. The 0.91 LR correlation (linear regression) confirms it mathematically — equity growth is near-linear from 2011 to 2026 across:

  • Gold’s 2011 peak around $1,900
  • The 2013-2018 bear market that took Gold below $1,100
  • The COVID crash and recovery
  • The 2022-2023 rate hike cycle
  • The 2024-2026 bull run to new all-time highs

That’s five distinct Gold market regimes with fundamentally different volatility, trend, and correlation characteristics. A mean-reversion strategy that works across all five regimes is capturing something structural about how Gold prices behave around their statistical mean — not exploiting a specific historical pattern.

This is the strongest evidence we have that BB Return isn’t curve-fitted. Curve-fitted strategies don’t survive regime changes; the equity curve shows it. BB Return survived all five.

The Live Signal: 12 Weeks of Confirmation

BB Return verified MQL5 live signal showing 36 percent growth in 12 weeks with 100 percent profit trades
36% live growth in 12 weeks, 100% profit trades, 5.2% max drawdown.

The MQL5 verified live signal has been running for 12 weeks on IC Markets at 1:1000 leverage. The numbers so far:

36% growth. On a $200 starting deposit, the account is now at $272.32 with $72.32 of accumulated profit. Modest in absolute terms but significant in percentage. The compounding from this base will accelerate as the equity grows.

100% profit trades. Every single live trade has closed profitable. Not 99%. Not 99.5%. One hundred percent. The backtest’s 98.70% WR predicts roughly one loss per year, so 12 weeks without a loss is statistically consistent — losses will eventually come.

5.2% maximum drawdown. Even with no closed losses, the equity has fluctuated as positions opened and closed. Maximum drawdown of 5.2% is well controlled and consistent with the backtest’s 3.94% balance drawdown projection (the difference reflects the difference between balance DD and equity DD).

0.4% trading activity. The EA is in the market only 0.4% of the time. This is exceptionally low and confirms the selectivity from the backtest carries over to live conditions. The filtering system is working as designed.

12 weeks isn’t a complete validation. The backtest predicts about one loss per year — we haven’t seen one yet, so we don’t know how it will look in live execution. The asymmetric SL/TP means when that loss comes, it’ll be roughly 3.3x larger than a typical win in points. But we have 12 weeks of evidence that the live system is behaving exactly as the backtest suggested.

The SL/TP Asymmetry — Honest Discussion

Stop loss of 1500 points. Take profit of 450 points. The stop loss is 3.3x larger than the take profit. This is the single most important risk consideration with BB Return, and it deserves a direct conversation rather than glossing over.

Here’s why it works: at 98.70% win rate, even a 3.3x SL/TP ratio is profitable. Mathematically, you need a win rate above 76.7% for a 3.3:1 SL/TP ratio to break even (calculated as 3.3 / (3.3 + 1)). At 98.70% you’re far above that threshold. The math is comfortable.

Here’s why it’s still risky: if the win rate degrades, the asymmetry amplifies losses faster than profits. If BB Return’s win rate dropped to, say, 80% (still high by EA standards), the 3.3:1 ratio means the system would be barely profitable. If it dropped to 70%, the system would be losing money even with a higher-than-most-EAs win rate.

The backtest’s 98.70% WR has held over 15 years and 1,076 trades. That’s strong evidence the win rate is stable. But it’s not a guarantee. Fundamental shifts in Gold’s volatility regime, broker conditions, or market microstructure could erode the win rate. If they do, the asymmetric SL/TP becomes the dominant risk factor.

Practical implication: size conservatively. Even at 1% risk per trade, a single 1500-point loss on Gold can be substantial. Don’t run BB Return at risk levels that would be problematic if the next loss were 3.3x larger than your typical win. The math always says it’s manageable, but the math depends on a win rate continuing to hold that’s already at the extreme upper limit of what’s possible.

Broker Flexibility — Genuinely Unique

Most Gold scalpers come with a long list of broker requirements. RAW or ECN account only. Specific brokers preferred. Spread sensitivity warnings. Performance variance disclaimers. The reason: Gold scalpers typically use tight SL/TP distances, which means broker spreads consume a meaningful percentage of every trade. On a Standard account with 30-pip Gold spreads, a tight scalper bleeds out before the strategy gets a chance to work.

BB Return is explicitly different. The developer states the EA is not sensitive to spread, slippage, or broker quote specifics. It works on Standard accounts, ECN accounts, Pro accounts, Raw, Razor, anywhere. We’ve checked this against the SL/TP architecture and it makes structural sense: at 1500-point SL and 450-point TP, even a 30-pip spread is roughly 2% of the trade distance. Tight scalpers can’t absorb that. BB Return can.

For practical purposes, this means you don’t need to switch brokers, open a new account type, or worry about spread quality matching the developer’s signal broker. Your existing setup probably works fine. This is rare among Gold EAs and worth highlighting because it removes a significant practical barrier to deployment.

MT4 vs MT5 — Which Build Should You Choose?

BB Return is available in both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 builds. The strategy logic is identical between platforms; the choice comes down to your existing infrastructure and broker situation.

Choose BB Return MT5 if: you already run MetaTrader 5, your broker offers MT5, you run other MT5 EAs and want a single platform, or you want native MT5 order management.

Choose BB Return MT4 if: your broker only offers MT4 (some regulated brokers still don’t provide MT5), you have existing MT4 infrastructure you don’t want to migrate, you run other MT4 EAs you want to keep alongside BB Return, or you prefer MT4’s older but more familiar interface.

Both builds use the same verified MQL5 live signal as their performance reference. Whichever platform you choose, you’re evaluating the same proven strategy logic.

Where to Download BB Return EA Legitimately

For each platform, two sources, and only two:

MQL5 Marketplace — the official developer pages. BB Return MT4 and BB Return MT5. Instant activation through MQL5’s built-in licensing, direct support from Leonid Arkhipov in the product comments.

CheaperForex — authorised reseller pricing significantly below MQL5’s price for both builds, with the same official activation, the same EA file, the same updates, plus a 7-day money-back guarantee before activation and an extra 20% discount for crypto payments.

Anywhere else claiming to offer BB Return — for free, at suspiciously discounted prices, via Telegram, via cracked .ex4 or .ex5 files — is a scam. The MQL5 DRM cannot be cracked. Files from those sources either won’t execute, will execute as fake EAs that don’t trade XAUUSD, or contain malware.

Strategy Logic — How BB Return Actually Trades

The strategy is simple to describe but disciplined in execution:

Step 1 — BB Break: Price breaks outside the upper or lower Bollinger Band. This is the initial trigger. Most EAs would now look for a re-entry.

Step 2 — Return Candle: Instead of trading on the break, BB Return waits for a confirmed return candle to form, indicating price is reverting back inside the bands. Many breaks don’t produce a clean return — they continue trending. The EA filters those out.

Step 3 — Filter Checks: Before entering, the EA verifies four conditions:

  • Is the current spread acceptable?
  • Is the BB width within normal range (avoiding squeezes or extreme expansions)?
  • Is volatility within tradeable bounds?
  • Does the middle band filter confirm the setup quality?

Step 4 — Entry: Only when all conditions align does the EA place a trade with the fixed 1500-point SL and 450-point TP.

The on-chart HUD panel shows each filter’s status in real-time — green “OK” or red “NO”. The “Direction WAIT” status means all conditions aren’t yet met. When everything aligns, it changes to the trade direction. This transparency is unusual and valuable; most EAs hide their decision logic.

11 MQL5 Reviews — All 5-Star

BB Return verified 5-star MQL5 reviews from buyers
11 verified MQL5 reviews — all 5-star.

11 reviews isn’t a huge sample, but it’s consistent. All 5-star. The recurring themes:

“Backtest matches live results.” Multiple reviewers specifically note that live performance closely tracks the backtest. This is the single most important confirmation for an EA — backtest matching live behaviour is what separates working strategies from curve-fitted illusions. Mohammed Alsabakha called the match “unbelievable.”

“Simple installation.” smc_trader notes the EA installed cleanly with no configuration headaches. Plug-and-play setups matter for non-technical buyers.

“Optimal backtest results.” Multiple reviewers cite the backtest quality as a buying decision factor. Jonathan Bastide specifically called out “wonderful backtest over more than 20 years.”

Maintaining 5-star ratings across 11 reviews on a Gold EA is uncommon. Gold EAs typically attract complaints during drawdown periods. That this hasn’t happened with BB Return reflects either (a) the live drawdowns have been small enough not to trigger panic, or (b) the buyer pool understands what they’re running. Probably both.

Who BB Return Works For (and Who It Doesn’t)

BB Return works for you if: you want the highest backtest profit factor available; you’re comfortable with patient, selective trading (1-2 trades per week); you accept the SL/TP asymmetry as a reasonable trade-off for the high win rate; you want broker flexibility without ECN/RAW requirements; you’re willing to size conservatively to manage the wider stop loss; you have $500+ to deploy with patience.

BB Return doesn’t work for you if: you want frequent trading activity (this is a low-frequency system); you can’t accept individual losses being 3.3x typical wins (the asymmetric SL/TP is structural); you need months of live track record before deployment (signal is 12 weeks old); you’re trading prop firm challenges with strict per-trade loss limits (the 1500-point SL may exceed daily loss limits on smaller accounts).

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I download BB Return EA MT4 or MT5?

Two legitimate sources for each platform: MQL5 marketplace, or CheaperForex at a significant discount with a 7-day money-back guarantee. BB Return MT5 | BB Return MT4.

Can I download BB Return EA for free?

No. BB Return is an MQL5 marketplace product with built-in DRM that cannot be cracked or pirated. Sites offering “free downloads” distribute malware, fake EAs, or funnel you into Telegram VIP signal scams. The only legitimate sources are MQL5 and CheaperForex.

How can the profit factor be 102?

The 102.02 profit factor reflects the combination of extreme filtering selectivity (only 80-100 trades per year) and a 98.70% win rate sustained across 1,076 trades. Gross profits of $25.2M against gross losses of $247K over 15 years on a compounding $1,000 base. The filtering eliminates almost all weak setups before any trade is placed.

What’s the difference between BB Return MT4 and MT5?

The strategy logic is identical between platforms — same Bollinger Band mean-reversion, same multi-filter confirmation, same SL/TP, same shared live signal. Differences are platform-native order management. Choose MT5 for modern brokers and MT5 ecosystems. Choose MT4 if your broker only offers MT4.

Why is the stop loss 3.3x larger than the take profit?

The fixed 1500-point SL and 450-point TP create asymmetric risk per trade. At 98.70% win rate this is profitable — you need only a 76.7%+ win rate for a 3.3:1 ratio to break even. The high win rate compensates for the larger individual losses. Risk: if the win rate ever degraded substantially, the asymmetry would amplify losses. Size conservatively.

Does BB Return really work on any broker?

The developer explicitly states the EA is not sensitive to spread, slippage, or broker quote specifics. The wider 1500/450-point SL/TP architecture absorbs spread variations that would destroy tighter scalpers. Standard, ECN, Pro, Raw, Razor — all supported. This is unusual for Gold scalpers and is a genuine practical advantage.

Is 12 weeks of live signal data enough?

It’s the start of validation, not the end. The backtest predicts roughly one loss per year — 12 weeks without a loss is consistent with that prediction. The 100% live win rate, 5.2% max drawdown, and 0.4% trading activity all match backtest expectations. But we won’t know how the system handles its first live loss until it happens. We recommend evaluating over 6+ months before increasing position size.

Can I use BB Return on a prop firm account?

Possibly, but the 1500-point fixed stop loss may conflict with strict per-trade or daily loss limits on smaller funded accounts. Each prop firm has different rules — review your firm’s specific limits before deploying. The lack of grid/martingale and fixed SL/TP architecture is otherwise prop-firm friendly.

Do I need a VPS for BB Return?

Recommended. The EA needs continuous market monitoring to catch the BB break + return candle setups when they form. A VPS ensures uninterrupted operation. Costs $13-25/month.

What about the optional Recovery Mode?

The HUD panel shows a Recovery system that’s OFF by default. If enabled, this would increase lot size after losses to recover. We recommend keeping it OFF unless you fully understand the implications. Recovery modes amplify risk during drawdowns and conflict with the conservative architecture that makes BB Return work in the first place.

Who is Leonid Arkhipov?

The developer of BB Return. Originally used the Bollinger Band return strategy in manual trading before automating it. The product page on MQL5 shows direct developer responses to buyer questions, indicating active support.

The Verdict

BB Return EA delivers the most extreme backtest metrics we’ve ever listed. 102.02 profit factor. 98.70% win rate. Maximum 1 consecutive loss across 15 years. Near-linear equity growth through five distinct Gold market regimes. 12 weeks of live signal data confirming the backtest behaviour. 11 5-star reviews from MQL5 buyers specifically noting that live results match backtest expectations.

The honest considerations are real but bounded. The 12-week live signal isn’t a complete validation — we haven’t seen how the system handles its first live loss yet. The 3.3x SL/TP asymmetry means individual losses will be larger than individual wins; if the win rate ever degrades substantially, the asymmetry becomes the dominant risk. The Recovery mode should stay OFF.

But the engineering is sound. The strategy is simple enough to understand and verify. The filtering creates the selectivity that creates the win rate. The 15-year backtest with 0.91 LR correlation is exceptional. The broker flexibility is a genuine practical advantage. And the developer’s transparency — running a public live signal, responding to buyer questions in the MQL5 comments — is what you’d want from a serious EA author.

We rate BB Return EA 4.5 out of 5. The half-star held back is for the 12-week live signal length and the SL/TP asymmetry that requires conservative sizing to manage properly. For traders who want the highest-quality Gold EA backtest currently available — with the patience to accept low trade frequency and the discipline to size appropriately — BB Return is exceptional.
