What is an Expert Advisor?

An Expert Advisor is a program that runs inside MetaTrader. It watches the market, spots the setups its strategy is built for, and places and manages the trades itself. It runs 24 hours a day, five days a week, executes faster than a person can, and follows its rules whatever the market does.

Why is MT4 still so popular?

Released in 2005, MetaTrader 4 is still the most used forex platform in the world. It is simple, reliable and supported by almost every broker, and there is a huge library of EAs and indicators for it. MT5 is technically better, but many traders stay on MT4 because their favourite EAs only run there or their broker does not offer MT5.

How to install an EA on MT4

1. Open MT4 and go to File, then Open Data Folder.

2. Open the MQL4 folder, then Experts.

3. Copy the EA file (.ex4) into that folder.

4. Restart MT4 and drag the EA from the Navigator panel onto your chart. Make sure AutoTrading is switched on.
