- Consistently the tightest spreads we've seen across over 10 years of testing
- Equinix LD5 servers in London โ sub-40ms execution, ideal for scalping EAs
- True ECN with deep liquidity โ minimal slippage even during NFP
- 3,500+ instruments including excellent gold and index CFDs
- Clean 18-year track record with zero regulatory violations
Cons
- Swap fees are above average โ not ideal for long-term hold strategies
- $200 minimum deposit is higher than some competitors
- Educational content is basic โ you're here to trade, not learn
- Not available to US, UK, or Japanese traders
Our Verdict
IC Markets is our top recommendation and the broker we use most ourselves. If you're running EAs on gold, forex, or indices, this is where you want to be. The execution speed, spread consistency, and liquidity depth are genuinely institutional-grade.
Most of our 28,000+ customers run their EAs on IC Markets, and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. The only reason to look elsewhere is if you need UK FCA regulation (consider Pepperstone) or want a lower minimum deposit.
Pepperstone
Best regulated broker for UK and European EA traders.

Pros
- FCA regulated โ UK clients get up to ยฃ85,000 FSCS protection
- Regulated in 8 jurisdictions โ among the most trustworthy brokers globally
- Gold spreads are excellent โ consistently some of the tightest we've tested
- Smart Trader Tools add 28 extra MT4/5 indicators and utilities
- No inactivity fees โ your dormant account won't get charged
Cons
- UK/EU clients are capped at 1:30 leverage โ regulatory requirement, not Pepperstone's fault
- No proprietary mobile app โ relies on branded MT4/5 and cTrader apps
- Share trading limited compared to pure stock brokers
- $20 fee for international bank wire withdrawals
Our Verdict
If you're in the UK, Pepperstone is the clear choice. FCA regulation with FSCS protection up to ยฃ85,000 gives you a safety net that offshore brokers can't match.
Their gold spreads are genuinely competitive with IC Markets, and the Equinix LD4 server in London means sub-30ms execution for UK-based VPS setups. The Smart Trader Tools package is a nice bonus for manual traders.
Our UK customers consistently rate Pepperstone as their preferred broker for EA trading.
Tickmill
Lowest commissions with serious regulation.
8.7/ 10
- Founded
- 2014
- Regulators
- FCA, CySEC, FSCA
- EUR/USD Spread
- 0.0โ0.2 pips
- Gold Spread
- ~15โ25 pips
- Commission
- $6/RT (Raw)
- Platforms
- MT4, MT5, TradingView
- Min Deposit
- $100
- Leverage
- Up to 1:1000
Pros
- $6/RT commission on Raw account โ $1 less per lot than IC Markets/Pepperstone
- VIP account drops to $4/RT if you trade 50+ lots/month or have $50K+ balance
- FCA and CySEC regulated โ strong Tier-1 oversight
- ~15ms average execution speed โ among the fastest in the industry
- Free VPS hosting for qualifying accounts
Cons
- Gold spreads are wider than IC Markets and Pepperstone โ noticeable for gold EAs
- Forex spreads slightly higher than the top two during our testing
- No cTrader โ limited to MT4, MT5, and TradingView
- Fewer instruments (630+) compared to IC Markets (3,500+)
Our Verdict
Tickmill is excellent value for high-volume EA traders who primarily trade forex pairs. The $6/RT commission saves you $1 per lot compared to IC Markets and Pepperstone โ which adds up fast if you're trading 100+ lots/month. The VIP tier at $4/RT is industry-leading.
However, if you're running gold EAs specifically, the wider gold spreads push your all-in costs closer to the competition.
Best suited for forex-focused EA traders who want serious regulation with lower commissions.
FP Markets
Quietly excellent โ tighter cross-pair spreads than you'd expect.
8.5/ 10
- Founded
- 2005
- Regulators
- ASIC, CySEC
- EUR/USD Spread
- 0.0โ0.2 pips
- Gold Spread
- ~8โ15 pips
- Commission
- $6/RT
- Platforms
- MT4, MT5, Iress
- Min Deposit
- $100
- Leverage
- Up to 1:500
Pros
- 20 years in operation โ one of the longest-running Australian brokers
- Exceptionally tight spreads on cross pairs and exotics โ often better than IC Markets
- $6/RT commission โ competitive with Tickmill
- 10,000+ tradable instruments โ massive selection
- Free VPS for accounts with $1,000+ balance or 10+ lots/month
Cons
- Less well-known than IC Markets/Pepperstone โ smaller community
- No FCA regulation โ not ideal for UK traders seeking FSCS protection
- Iress platform has a learning curve and separate fee structure
- Customer support can be slower during Asian session hours
Our Verdict
FP Markets is the underrated choice that more EA traders should consider. Their cross-pair and exotic spreads are genuinely tighter than most competitors, and the $6/RT commission matches Tickmill.
If you're running multi-pair EAs that trade EUR/GBP, AUD/JPY, or other crosses, FP Markets may actually give you better all-in costs than IC Markets.
The 20-year track record and ASIC regulation provide solid trust. Just note there's no FCA entity for UK traders.
VT Markets
Most account variety on this list โ including cent accounts with raw spreads.
8.4/ 10
- Founded
- 2015
- Regulators
- ASIC, FSCA, FSC
- EUR/USD Spread
- 0.0 pips (Raw)
- Gold Spread
- ~12โ20 pips
- Commission
- $6/RT (Raw/ECN)
- Platforms
- MT4, MT5, TradingView
- Cent Account
- โ STP + ECN
- Crypto Deposits
- โ Yes
Pros
- Widest account selection โ Standard STP, Raw ECN, Cent STP, Cent ECN, Swap-Free, and Pro ECN
- Cent ECN account offers raw spreads from 0.0 pips โ test EAs with micro-capital at proper ECN conditions
- ASIC regulated โ genuine Tier-1 oversight for the Australian entity
- Accepts crypto deposits โ fund your account without converting to fiat
- Standard STP account has zero commission with spreads from 1.2 pips โ simple for beginners
- $1 million insolvency insurance through Lloyd's โ extra layer of fund protection
Cons
- Relatively newer broker (2015) โ shorter track record than IC Markets or FP Markets
- Global clients route through FSC Mauritius โ weaker protection than the ASIC entity
- Cent accounts limited to forex, gold, silver, and oil only
- Raw ECN commission of $6/RT is competitive but not the cheapest (FXCC charges zero)
Our Verdict
VT Markets stands out for sheer account flexibility. No other broker on this list offers this many account types โ and the Cent ECN account is a standout. It gives you raw ECN spreads from 0.0 pips on a cent-denominated account, meaning you can test EAs with genuine market conditions but tiny risk.
The ASIC regulation adds real credibility, the crypto deposit options make funding easy, and the $1 million Lloyd's insurance is a nice trust signal. The $6/RT commission on Raw accounts is competitive with Tickmill and FP Markets.
Best suited for traders who want maximum flexibility across account types โ whether you're testing a new EA on a cent account or running serious capital on Raw ECN.
BlackBull Markets
Crypto-friendly with Equinix infrastructure and 26,000+ instruments.

Pros
- Accepts crypto deposits โ BTC, ETH, and more. Genuinely useful for traders who want to fund from crypto
- 26,000+ instruments โ one of the largest selections of any retail broker
- Equinix NY4 + LD5 servers โ same data centers as IC Markets and institutional firms
- Free TradingView Premium if you trade 10+ lots/month โ saves you $180+/year
- Zero withdrawal issues in our experience โ consistently reliable payouts
- 4.8/5.0 Trustpilot from 2,600+ reviews โ one of the highest-rated brokers
Cons
- FMA (New Zealand) is respectable but not Tier-1 like ASIC or FCA โ offshore clients fall under FSA Seychelles
- Prime account recommends $2,000 deposit for best spreads
- $5 flat withdrawal fee regardless of method
- Less well-known than IC Markets/Pepperstone โ smaller EA trading community
Our Verdict
BlackBull is the best option on this list if you want to fund your account with cryptocurrency. Deposit with BTC, ETH, or other crypto and start trading without converting to fiat first.
Beyond the crypto angle, it's a genuinely solid ECN broker โ Equinix infrastructure, competitive spreads on the Prime account, and the widest instrument selection we've seen. We've had zero issues with withdrawals.
The Deloitte Fast 50 recognition (multiple years) and near-perfect Trustpilot score back up the quality. Just note the FMA/FSA regulatory setup isn't as protective as ASIC or FCA.
Exness
Massive scale, instant withdrawals, but do your homework.
8.0/ 10
- Founded
- 2008
- Regulators
- FCA, CySEC, FSA
- EUR/USD Spread
- 0.0 pips (Zero)
- Gold Spread
- ~12โ20 pips
- Commission
- $7/RT (Zero)
- Platforms
- MT4, MT5
- Min Deposit
- $10
- Leverage
- Unlimited*
Pros
- Instant withdrawals โ genuinely instant, not "same day". This is rare and valuable
- $10 minimum deposit โ lowest barrier to entry on this list
- Zero account offers 0.0 pip spreads on 30 major instruments
- Multiple account types to suit different strategies (Standard, Pro, Zero, Raw)
- One of the highest-volume brokers globally โ deep liquidity
Cons
- Unlimited leverage sounds exciting but is genuinely dangerous for most traders
- Most retail clients end up on the offshore FSA entity, not the FCA/CySEC entity
- MT4 and MT5 only โ no cTrader or TradingView integration
- Zero account commission is higher than Tickmill/FP Markets for the same spread level
Our Verdict
Exness is excellent for traders who value instant withdrawals and low barriers to entry. The ability to withdraw your profits instantly โ not within 24 hours, actually instantly โ is a genuine differentiator that no other broker on this list matches.
However, be very careful with the unlimited leverage option and make sure you understand which regulatory entity your account falls under. The FCA and CySEC entities offer proper protection; the offshore entity offers much less.
Solid choice for experienced EA traders who know what they're doing.
FXCC
Zero commission + raw spreads โ the cheapest all-in cost on majors.
8.1/ 10

- 0.0โ0.2 pips
- Gold Spread
- ~15โ25 pips
- Commission
- $0 (zero!)

- MT4, MT5
- Min Deposit
- $0
- Crypto Deposits
- โ Yes (USDT +)
Pros
- Zero commission on the ECN XL account โ AND raw spreads from 0.0 pips. This is exceptionally rare
- EUR/USD often trades at 0.1โ0.2 pips with no commission โ lowest all-in cost on majors on this list
- CySEC regulated (EU entity) โ proper Tier-1 regulatory oversight for European clients
- Accepts crypto deposits including USDT across multiple networks โ not just ERC-20
- No minimum deposit, no deposit fees, and FXCC reimburses banking charges on deposits
- Zero withdrawal issues in our experience โ reliable and consistent payouts
Cons
- Instrument range is limited โ 70+ forex pairs but no stocks or ETFs
- Offshore entity (MISA) offers significantly less protection than the CySEC entity
- MT4 and MT5 only โ no cTrader or TradingView integration
- Withdrawal handling fees can apply depending on payment method
- Swap fees are higher than average โ not ideal for overnight positions
Our Verdict
FXCC's killer feature is something no other broker on this list offers: zero commission combined with raw ECN spreads from 0.0 pips. Every other "raw spread" broker charges $4โ7 per round turn on top. FXCC doesn't.
On EUR/USD, you're often trading at 0.1โ0.2 pips total cost โ that's cheaper than any Raw account at IC Markets or Pepperstone once you factor in their commission. We've had zero issues withdrawing from FXCC, and the crypto deposit options (including USDT on multiple networks) make funding easy.
The trade-off is a smaller instrument range โ this is a forex-focused broker, not a multi-asset platform. If you primarily trade major forex pairs and want the absolute lowest cost per trade, FXCC is hard to beat.
RoboForex
Budget-friendly with huge leverage โ but weaker regulation.
7.2/ 10

Pros
- $4/RT commission on ECN account โ cheapest commission on this list
- $10 minimum deposit with 1:2000 leverage โ accessible for small accounts
- 12,000+ instruments โ enormous selection including stocks
- Supports MT4, MT5, and cTrader โ full platform flexibility
- Cent accounts available for micro-testing EAs with minimal capital
Cons
- Only regulated by IFSC Belize โ no Tier-1 regulation (FCA, ASIC, CySEC)
- 1:2000 leverage with no Tier-1 oversight is a recipe for blown accounts
- Gold spreads are the widest on this list โ significant cost for gold EA traders
- Withdrawal processing can be slower than competitors
- No negative balance protection guarantee from a Tier-1 regulator
Our Verdict
We'll be straight with you: RoboForex is the weakest on this list when it comes to regulation. IFSC Belize is not in the same league as ASIC, FCA, or CySEC.
That said, the $4/RT commission is genuinely the lowest available, the cent account is brilliant for testing EAs with real money but minimal risk, and the platform selection is excellent. We've had zero issues with withdrawals from RoboForex โ payouts have always been processed reliably.
Note that unlike BlackBull and FXCC, RoboForex does not accept crypto deposits, so you'll need to fund via traditional methods. If you're an experienced trader who understands the regulatory trade-off and wants the cheapest possible execution for forex EAs, RoboForex delivers on price. But if safety and regulatory protection matter to you โ and they should โ start with IC Markets or Pepperstone instead.
Honest Forex Broker Reviews โ No Affiliate Links, No Sponsorships
Most forex broker review sites are glorified affiliate pages. They recommend whoever pays the highest commission, not whoever gives you the best trading experience. We don't do that. CheaperForex has zero affiliate relationships with any broker. We make our money selling Expert Advisors โ so our only incentive is to recommend brokers where these EAs perform best, because happy customers come back.
These reviews are based on over 10 years of hands-on experience running automated trading systems, feedback from 28,000+ customers, and ongoing testing of execution quality, spreads, and slippage across all nine brokers. We test with real money, not demo accounts.
How We Rate Brokers
Our ratings prioritize what actually matters for forex trading and EA performance: spread consistency under live conditions (not just advertised minimums), execution speed and slippage during volatile events, regulatory strength and fund protection, platform compatibility with MetaTrader EAs, gold (XAU/USD) trading conditions, and withdrawal reliability. A broker can have the tightest advertised spreads in the world, but if they widen to 30 pips during NFP when your EA needs to execute, those numbers are meaningless.
Which Broker Should You Choose?
Best overall for EA trading
IC Markets. Tightest spreads, fastest execution, and the broker most of our customers use successfully. If you have no specific regulatory requirements, start here.
Best for UK traders
Pepperstone. FCA regulation with FSCS protection up to ยฃ85,000. Gold spreads rival IC Markets. The Smart Trader Tools package adds genuine value for MT4/5 users.
Best value for high-volume forex trading
Tickmill. The $6/RT commission ($4/RT on VIP) saves you money on every single lot. If you're trading forex pairs rather than gold, the spread difference versus IC Markets is minimal.
Best for cross pairs and exotics
FP Markets. Consistently tighter spreads on non-major pairs than the competition. 20-year track record with ASIC regulation.
Best for instant withdrawals
Exness. Genuinely instant withdrawals are rare in this industry. Low minimum deposit makes it accessible for newer traders.
Best for crypto deposits
BlackBull Markets. Deposit with BTC, ETH, and other crypto without converting to fiat first. Equinix infrastructure, 26,000+ instruments, and zero withdrawal issues in our experience. VT Markets and FXCC also accept crypto deposits โ VT Markets offers multiple crypto options, and FXCC supports USDT on multiple networks.
Best for lowest all-in trading cost on majors
FXCC. Zero commission plus raw ECN spreads from 0.0 pips โ EUR/USD often trades at 0.1โ0.2 pips total cost. No other broker matches this on major pairs. CySEC regulated for the European entity.
Best for cent accounts / micro-testing
VT Markets. Their Cent ECN account gives you raw spreads from 0.0 pips on a cent-denominated balance โ test EAs with real ECN conditions and minimal risk. ASIC regulated. RoboForex also offers cent accounts at lower commission but with weaker regulation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best forex broker for EA trading?
Based on over 10 years of experience and feedback from 28,000+ customers, IC Markets is the best overall broker for Expert Advisor trading. It offers the tightest spreads, fastest execution (sub-40ms via Equinix servers), true ECN liquidity, and full support for MT4, MT5, and cTrader. For UK traders specifically, Pepperstone is the best choice due to FCA regulation and FSCS protection.
Do these brokers allow Expert Advisors?
Yes โ all nine brokers reviewed on this page fully support Expert Advisors on MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. There are no restrictions on automated trading, scalping, or hedging. IC Markets, Pepperstone, FP Markets, BlackBull, and RoboForex also offer cTrader for cBot-based automation.
Which broker has the lowest spreads on gold (XAU/USD)?
In our testing, IC Markets and Pepperstone consistently offer the tightest gold spreads, typically 5โ15 pips on raw accounts during the London-New York overlap. FP Markets is also competitive. Tickmill and RoboForex tend to have wider gold spreads, making them less ideal for gold-focused EA trading.
Are these broker reviews sponsored or paid?
No. CheaperForex has zero affiliate relationships with any broker on this page. We receive no commissions, sponsorship fees, or referral payments. We sell Expert Advisors โ our only incentive is to recommend brokers where these EAs perform best for our customers.
What is the safest forex broker?
From a regulatory perspective, Pepperstone is the most broadly regulated broker on this list, with licenses from the FCA, ASIC, CySEC, DFSA, BaFin, and three other authorities. IC Markets is also very strong with ASIC and CySEC regulation. VT Markets holds an ASIC license for its Australian entity plus FSCA oversight, and offers $1M Lloyd's insolvency insurance. FXCC offers CySEC regulation for its European entity, which is solid Tier-1 oversight. BlackBull is regulated by New Zealand's FMA, which is respectable but not Tier-1. At the other end, RoboForex is only regulated by IFSC Belize, which offers significantly less investor protection. Always check which regulatory entity your account falls under โ some brokers route new clients to offshore entities by default.
What is the minimum deposit to start trading forex?
The lowest minimum deposits on this list are $10 (Exness and RoboForex), with VT Markets' Cent account at $50. However, we recommend starting with at least $500โ1,000 for a real account, especially if running EAs. Undercapitalised accounts lead to improper lot sizing, excessive risk per trade, and inevitable blown accounts. Use our lot size calculator to determine the minimum balance needed for your preferred EA and risk settings.
Does CheaperForex recommend a specific broker?
We recommend IC Markets for most traders and Pepperstone for UK-based traders. These are the two brokers where we've seen the best EA performance, the most consistent execution, and the fewest customer complaints since 2019. However, the best broker for you depends on your location, regulatory preferences, budget, and what instruments you trade.
