EURUSD Bollinger Reversion Expert MT5 looks for price to move outside a Bollinger Band and then close back inside it. RSI confirmation and an ATR-related volatility filter qualify the setup, while an optional middle-band exit targets a return toward the range center. The default strategy uses EURUSD H1 completed candles.

The band re-entry sequence

A buy setup begins with a close below the lower Bollinger Band, followed by a completed candle closing back inside the bands. RSI must also be at or below the configured buy threshold, with acceptable spread and volatility conditions. The sell setup starts above the upper band, then requires a close back inside and RSI at or above the selected sell level.

Waiting for a return inside the band is different from buying every lower-band touch. The strategy needs a completed-candle sequence, giving the test a specific event to inspect. The published defaults use a 20-period Bollinger calculation with deviation 2.0, RSI 14 and thresholds 35/65 for buys and sells respectively.

The volatility check compares Bollinger Band width with ATR. If the bands are excessively wide relative to ATR, the EA can filter a new signal. That check is intended to screen unusual conditions; it is not proof that a permitted entry will revert. Strong trends can continue after a temporary move back inside the band.

Middle-band exits and protection

The optional Middle Band Exit closes toward the statistical center of the bands. It can apply to both buy and sell positions and is enabled in the listed default configuration. This makes the moving middle band a meaningful part of the exit decision, alongside the configured Stop Loss and Take Profit.

The default fixed distances are a 50-pip Stop Loss and 60-pip Take Profit, with 1% risk. Percentage sizing is based on account balance and Stop Loss distance; fixed lots are available as an alternative. The EA checks available free margin before submission and can adjust volume when necessary.

Trailing protection has adjustable distance and step and is disabled by default. If you combine trailing with Middle Band Exit, check which condition actually closes each trade in your test. Maximum-spread filtering, Magic Number support and the on-chart information panel help control and inspect operation, but they do not remove the risk of failed reversions.

Testing a mean-reversion setup

EURUSD H1 is the stated starting configuration, and the signal timeframe can be changed. The indicator periods, band deviation and RSI thresholds can also be adjusted. Altering several together can produce a materially different strategy, so record each tested configuration and compare it across more than one historical interval.

Our assessment is that this is a clearly defined alternative for traders who want to study returns from price extremes rather than trend continuation. The main consideration is how it behaves when a range becomes a sustained directional move. Include those periods in testing, along with realistic transaction costs and spread changes.

Use the broker’s actual EURUSD history and symbol specifications in the MT5 Strategy Tester, then forward-test on demo. Pay attention to the gap between a theoretical band-crossing event and the executable trade price.
