Dr JAN’s main description separates market direction, short-term confirmation, market filters, execution and position management. Completed-bar evaluation can avoid reacting to every intrabar fluctuation, though it can also delay an entry. The relevant question is how the resulting trades behave after spread and slippage, rather than whether a longer feature list sounds more sophisticated.
The September 11 update describes a rebuilt decision pipeline, fewer conflicting filters and revised post-loss/re-entry handling. It also maintains one-position protection and automatic risk management. Earlier release notes mention both trend-aligned and controlled reversal paths; treating the EA as exclusively trend-following would therefore oversimplify its documented behaviour.
Dr JAN versus Q8JAN Gold: substantial overlap
The developer’s September 10 release notes explicitly describe Dr JAN’s strategy as matching a Q8JAN Gold baseline, with product identity and trade identifiers changed. Both received closely matching architecture-reset descriptions the following day. We cannot confirm byte-for-byte equivalence of today’s files, but the published history is strong evidence of shared lineage.
Separate Magic Numbers identify orders; they do not create independent market risk. Running both Gold products could concentrate similar exposure on XAUUSD. Compare their current inputs and behaviour before treating them as two different strategies.
Risk controls that need broker-level testing
Automatic volume calculation and ATR-based management depend on the broker’s tick value, minimum lot and contract settings. The developer specifically discusses minimum-lot risk handling, which matters when a small account cannot take a fraction of the broker’s minimum trade. Check monetary stop risk and margin before interpreting a percentage setting as a guaranteed maximum loss.
Progressive profit protection, Loss Cut and controlled re-entry can change trade duration and win/loss size. A useful test records exits, repeated entries, maximum floating loss and execution cost. The source provides no independent public account link with which to cross-check those outcomes.
